The Hellenic had a free kick awarded in the 26th minute, with the initial kick being cleared by the Charlotte defense right to the foot of the Hellenic player Sonia Curvelo , who sent it right back in to the head of Jasmine Johnson , who headed it in for the first goal of the game. Nine minutes later, Hellenic player Shameka Gordon was fouled in the box and a PK was awarded. The PK was converted by Sarah Chapman , bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of the Hellenic. The first half stats showed that the shots were even in the first half at seven for each team.

The first fifteen minutes of the second half played much the same as the first half, with both teams having their fair share of the possession. As the half wore on, Charlotte seemed to gain momentum, and they brought the score to within one on a score by Hailey Beam. Beam received the ball in the box and seemed to settle it with her hand before turning and scoring, but that’s not the way the referees saw it, so the goal counted. That was all that Charlotte needed for momentum as they kept the Hellenic on their heels until they finally evened the score in the 89th minute, when Lulu Quigley crossed the ball into the box and Laura Novikoft headed in the equalizer. The Hellenic finally picked up their pace for the final few minutes of injury time, but it was too little too late and the game ended up in a 2-2 tie. These same two teams meet again next Saturday night as the Hellenic travel to Charlotte and Cary for back to back games on the road.
