The Tampa Bay Hellenic almost let a win slip away last Saturday night at Ed Radice field, but the second goal of the night by Hellenic player Sarah Chapman clinched their second win in as many weeks against the Cary Lady Clarets.
The Clarets came to Tampa with a lot of energy and seemed determined to obtain revenge against the 2-0 loss they suffered to Tampa last Sunday in Cary. However, in the sixth minute, the Hellenic’s Angelique Waller brought the ball all the way up the field from her left back position and was fouled in the box creating a PK opportunity for the home side. Chapman converted the PK for the first score of the game and her third PK conversion of the season. This did not discourage Cary and both teams fought an even battle for the balance of the first half, with both teams tallying eight shots by the halftime break. The second half saw both teams creating chances but neither side finding the goal until Jenn Partenheimer scored the tying goal for the Clarets in the 88th minute. A goal so late in the game would normally mean that the match would be ending in a tie, but the Hellenic wasn’t ready to concede to that, and not much more than a minute later, Chapman received a ball in the midfield and dribbled it up the right side where she blasted a shot past the Cary keeper to take the lead once again. The Hellenic was able to hold the lead for the last couple of minutes and bring their record to 4-1-2. Join the Hellenic for their next game on Friday, June 26 at 7pm (Ed Radice field) when they face the Atlanta Silverbacks and attempt to seek revenge for their only loss of the season. You won’t want to miss the battle of the first and second place teams in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.
